REPORT Standing Committee On The Food Chain And Animal Health Section On Toxicological Safety Meeting of 12 October 2004

2 and 3. The Commitee voted in favour of controls on polycyclic hrdocarbons in foods, and approved sampling and analysis methods. Safety of smoked foods will finally come within regulatory controls.
4. Discussion and possible opinion on a proposal for a Regulation amending Regulation (EC) No 466/2001 as regards heavy metals, regarding increase in MRL for Cadmium in fishery products.
5. Discussion and possible opinion on a proposal for a Directive amending Directive 2001/22/EC laying down the sampling methods and the methods of analysis for the official control of the levels of lead, cadmium, mercury and 3- MCPD in certain foodstuffs
15. Discussion on arsenic in seaweed following high levels found in some imported varieties.

10. The Commission present a draft Commission Regulation regarding prescribed methods for processing of animal by-products of fish origin.
17. Miscellaneous. The Commission distributed to the Member States a provisional version of a European Parliament Working Paper on “The Fish Meal and Fish Oil Industry: Its Role in the Common Fisheries Policy”
